28 months later movie release date8/21/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() From heart-pounding chases to nerve-wracking survival scenarios, zombie movies offer a thrilling blend of terror and excitement. In the realm of horror cinema, few creatures have captivated audiences quite like the relentless, flesh-craving zombies. With the current state of the industry, films need a huge draw to get the crowds in, and we believe a third movie with a solid script, the original creators and lead could do it. We feel that a third film has a higher probability of being made if the trio of Garland, Boyle and Murphy are all on board. If no Murphy for 28 Months Later, then 28 Years Later could definitely work for his return. Cillian Murphy may be 20 years older, but he has a youthful look, and fans would love to see him return. Garland has a script that Boyle is interested in. While nothing is confirmed yet, we may be closer than we ever have been to getting 28 Months Later. Directed by Danny Boyle, the atmospheric horror was seen as a breath of fresh air for the zombie genre, with a finely crafted storyline and distinct characters. In 2002, the film 28 Days Later, written by Alex Garland marked a significant revival of British horror. We would love to see Cillian Murphy reprise his role in a 28 sequel, but 28 Months Later would mean he would only be between 2-3 years older than he was in the first film, which was made over 20 years ago. So yeah, I love the idea and it’s very appealing to me.” It really stands up, which is amazing for a film that’s 20 years old. Because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween about four or five years ago, and they loved it. “But every time I do bump into Danny or Alex I always mention it. Murphy tells NME “I think there’s a problem with that, in that I’m 20 years older…” and he goes on to say: Image Credit: UK Film Council/Fox Searchlight Pictures Setting the film in England again would be good for continuity, but would it allow the return of Cillian Murphy’s character? Could we see the return of Cillian Murphy to the franchise? Cillian Murphy as Jim in 28 Days Later. Boyle tells NME that “ It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered ‘Bang, this script!’ which is again set in England, very much about England. ![]() It feels like a very good time actually.” What’s more, according to the interview, Garland’s script is set in England. Boyle tells NME that Alex Garland has written a script with “a lovely idea” and “I’d be very tempted.
